ScreenVue is the result of a joint venture and partnership between Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC).

ScreenVue first launched in 2003 as a service of CVLI. The CVLI Church Video License provides legal coverage for churches and for other ministry organizations to show DVDs, Blu-rays, movie downloads and streams of motion pictures. Each organization needs to be specifically covered. Coverage includes playing just a few seconds of a movie all the way up to showing the full-length feature.

Each *Total Producer Church Video License* and *Standard CVLI Video License* (or any *Church Video Licence* globally) comes with free ScreenVue Vault access.

The ScreenVue Vault offers 11,000+ Scene Ideas and Downloads from a variety of movies and resources. 

ScreenVue saves you hours of time finding that perfect movie illustration for next Sunday’s sermon, child or youth service, or video announcement!

### CCLI

Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) was established in 1988 to provide churches with simple, affordable solutions to complex copyright issues. CCLI helps churches maintain their integrity while giving them the freedom to worship expressively and spontaneously.

Churches often face copyright infringement issues in two areas: 1) copying music without permission, and 2) showing movies without authorization.

For copying music to assist with congregational singing, the Church Copyright License provides blanket coverage for 300,000+ songs and 4,500+ publishers and song owners. Currently, global churches are using 600,000+ CCLI licenses.

### CVLI

From a unique partnership between Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC), Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and the Church Video License was formed in 2001.

The Church Video License provides churches with legal coverage to show all, or any portion of, thousands of movie titles from a number of movie producers, including all the major studios. Currently, the titles from almost 3,000 producers are represented by the Church Video License, including the titles that contain all the Scene Ideas and Scene Downloads that are part of the ScreenVue Vault.

__"Why won't my Access Key work?"__
- The usual reason for the Access Key not to work (and a footer error message to appear) is that something is missing from the sign-in protocol.
- Enter the *Email address* associated with your Church Video License (or CCLI account).
- Enter the *Access Key* found in your last CVL update email (exactly, with no spaces).
- Select the *Terms of Use* and a *Keeping in Touch* option.
- You should be in! If you have done all this and still have a problem, please let us know and we'll dig further.

__"In the USA, why don't I have access as a CVL Family Values Package member?"__

Elizabeth has just told the priest that her child's name will be John.  The priest protests, causing Zechariah to write on his tablet.  The scene moves ahead many years, to when Abner approaches Jesus, who is praying.  Back in the past, Zechariah shows the priest his words: "His name is John."  As soon as he does this, his voice returns to him and Zechariah begins to praise God.  Elizabeth, smiling, hands baby John to his father.  Again in the future, the executioners prepare to behead John.  John turns his head to look out of the window of his prison.  He sees a beautiful, sun-kissed field.  A lamb stands in the field, grazing.  The lamb looks back at John for a moment, at the same time a rainbow appears reflected on the grass.  John, whispering: "Thank You."  The executioner swings his axe.  Some distance away, Jesus has just heard Abner's news of John's death.  He tears his clothing and mourns.

Jesus is speaking alone with Lazarus, after having raised from the dead (see clip # CV11913).  Jesus talks of His own humanity and His very human feelings.  He feels frustration that His followers are so slow to learn.  He feels anger that the religious leaders twist true faith in God.  And, He feels dread for His coming suffering: "The cup I must drink to fulfill my Father's will."  Lazarus doesn't want to hear that Jesus will suffer.  Jesus: "The Son of Man must suffer many things.  The prophet Isaiah gave you many warnings."  Lazarus, heavily: "Yes.  Yes.  'He was despised and rejected by men.  A man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.'  They were just words on a scroll.  Now that they are about You...it's another story."  Jesus, gravely: "A story nearing its end."

Nicodemus sits at his dressing table, too disturbed by his failure with Lilith (see clip #CV11459) to get ready for dinner.  His wife, Zohara, scurries around the room, busy with thoughts of their important evening.  But Nicodemus is suddenly discontent with the superficiality of his role as spiritual leader: "When did Shabbat become theater?"  Zohara, however, enjoys her position as wife of a respected Teacher of Israel.  She admonishes her husband: "You do not have questions.  You have answers.  You have authority.  You bring clarity, not confusion."  Nicodemus asks his wife to look in the small mirror on his dressing table.  The mirror is warped and gives only a distorted reflection.  Zohara: "It is a cheap glass.  I can barely make out anything at all."  Nicodemus: "Sometimes...I wonder if what we can know of Adonai in the law...it's just as blurred.  What if we're not seeing the whole picture?  What if it's more beautiful and more strange than we can ever imagine?"  Zohara, dismissively: "That is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.  It might even be blasphemy."  Nicodemus, sighing: "It was just a thought." (Season 1, Episode 1)

James and John are standing with Jesus when a group of Samaritans throw stones at them.  The brothers angrily lunge at the men, but Jesus stops them, telling them not to act or speak in return.  But, when one of the Samaritans spits on John, his temper boils: "You filthy dogs!"  Jesus rebukes him: "I said, quiet!"  When the men leave, the brothers beg Jesus to let them avenge His honor: "They reviled and humiliated You!  They deserve to have bolts of lightning rain down and incinerate them!  Yes, fire from the heavens!"  Jesus: "Fire?"  John: "You said we could do things like that!  Say the word and it will happen!" James regrets coming to Samaria at all: "They don't deserve You."   In response, Jesus asks the brothers why He had them plow the field of a Samaritan.  James and John don't have a clue.  Jesus tells them that the work they are doing is sowing seeds that will last generations: "These people that you hate so much are believing in Me without even seeing miracles.  It's the truth that we're giving them.  And you're going to get in the way of that because a few people from a region you don't like are mean to you?  That they are not worthy?  What, you're so much better?  That you're more worthy?  Well, let me tell you something, you're not!  That's the whole point!  It's why I'm here."  The brothers look appropriately chastised.  They hang their heads and apologize.  Jesus, softening his voice: "As we gather others, I need you to help show the way, to be humble."  The brothers promise.  Laughing, Jesus gives them the name Sons of Thunder.

Jesus has sent Zee and Matthew to get a donkey's colt for Him to ride into Jerusalem.  They have found the colt described, one who has never been ridden, and are busy untying it when a servant confronts them.  Servant: "You're taking my master's colt?"  Matthew, giving the answer Jesus told them to say: "The Lord has need of it."  The servant still protests: "What is this all about?"  Zee, firmly: "The Lord has need of this."  The servant looks impressed: "Are you followers of the Nazarene that raised Lazarus?"  Zee nods: "Do you know the prophets?  From Zechariah, 'Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion.  Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem.  Your King is coming to you.  Righteous and having salvation is He, humble and mounted on a donkey."  Servant, finishing the quote: "On a colt, the foal of a donkey."  Servant, astonished: "This colt?  Today?  What are you waiting for?"  He joyfully gives them the donkey.

Jesus is preparing to give the Sermon on the Mount.  He is speaking with His disciples beforehand, telling them why He has chosen to speak to the people.  He tells them it isn't to make their presence felt in the region, or about the details of how it's going to happen.  Jesus: "What makes this sermon so important is each person who will be there.  Philip, what makes John's sermons so memorable?"  Philip, joking: "His volume."  Jesus laughs as Philip continues: "He spoke directly to whoever was there.  It was personal."  Jesus: "Yes, good."  Jesus tells the disciples there will be thousands who hear His words: "What I say will be for each and every one of them.  They are coming because the word is spreading from the signs and wonders.  But what I will be giving them will be far more important.  Truth."

Jesus and Andrew are sitting Shiva after the death of John the Baptist.  This week-long period of mourning is a time for the bereaved to feel their loss and weep with others.  So, when Andrew laughs at something funny Jesus says, he feels wrong somehow.  Andrew: "Can we be laughing?"  Jesus: "Why not?  You know, some of the moments in which we laugh the hardest come around the time of a funeral.  Our hearts are so tender, all our emotions right at the surface.  Laughter and tears, closer than ever."  Jesus, smiling, recalls how even John himself could not remain sullen during Shiva for seven straight days.  Andrew: "I feel guilty.  I should be in shambles."  Jesus: "No, Andrew.  There is no 'should' in grief.  There's no right way to mourn."
(Season 4, Episode 2)

Jesus and His disciples are visiting the house of Lazarus.  While Jesus teaches in the other room, Martha is busy preparing food for everyone.  As she passes food around, Martha glares at her sister.  Mary is sitting near Jesus, drinking in His words.  Bitterly, Martha complains to Jesus: "It seems You didn't notice my sister has left me to serve alone."  She asks Jesus to tell Mary to help.  Tenderly, Jesus invites Martha to sit next to Him.  Martha: "How can I sit?  Only half Your followers have been served."  Jesus: "You are anxious and troubled about many things, and it is not for nothing.  Hospitality will always matter, and I am grateful for what you have done.  Your intention is well-meaning, but only one thing is truly necessary.  The best way to serve Me is to pay close attention to My words.  That is the priority.  That is what your sister has chosen.  It is a good portion, and it will not be taken from her."

Melech, a Samaritan, is grateful to Jesus for plowing his field, but he knows he is unworthy of such a kindness from a Jew: "If You knew who I am, You would never have helped me."  Jesus: "That's not true.  This is what we Jews do.  We tell and listen to stories.  Our stories connect us.  Tell me your story."  Melech, ashamed, tells Jesus that his family was starving.  And so, he and his friend waylaid a Jewish traveler on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho and stole everything he had.  They left him naked and seriously wounded on the side of the road.  While riding the man's stolen horse, Melech was thrown and broke his leg, permanently damaging it.  Melech: "So, now You know what You've done.  The kind of man You helped.  Every day I think about that Jew, naked and alone on the road, possibly dead.  I could be a murderer."  Jesus, softly: "He didn't die.  Somebody came along and helped him."  Melech: "How do You know?"  Jesus: "Melech, I know.  I promise you, he did not die."  Melech begins to weep.  Melech, shaking his head at Jesus: "Why me?"  He wonders why Jesus came to him, out of all the people that are clamoring for His attention.  Jesus: "A shepherd leaves the 99 on the mountain to search for the one that went astray."  (Season 2, Episode 1)


In 1897 two famous explorers, Bernard Grenfell and Arthur Hunt, traveled across Egypt in search of ancient manuscripts. They eventually arrive at the ancient town of Oxyrhynchus and are directed to ancient trash heaps outside the city limits where they eventually uncover over 500,000 pages of papyri text - the first being a fragment of the Gospel of Matthew, chapter one. This site has provided the most numerous sub-group of the earliest copies of the New Testament. 


Nicodemus has been asked to try to help Lilith, a woman possessed by a legion of demons.  Nicodemus stands outside her home and interviews her friend, Rivka.  The sounds of screaming and breaking glass coming from inside the home is heard by everyone in the courtyard.  Rivka: "You can put an end to this?"  Nicodemus doesn't respond, uncertain of his own power over whatever is controlling Lilith.  Holding his incense burner, which is filled with herbs thought to promote a holy atmosphere, Nicodemus slowly enters the house.  The room is dark, the furnishings minimal but scattered.  The bed is overturned and Lilith hides on the floor behind it.  Nicodemus, attempting to cast the demons from the woman: "I adjure you by the holy angels Michael, Gabriel, Rafael, Uriel and Reziel.  I adjure you, cursed dragon and diabolical legions.  Come out!"  A gasp is heard from behind the bed.  Nicodemus continues to call the demons out: "In the name of Adonai, God of the heavens, cease to deceive this human creature!"  Lilith groans again.  Nicodemus, who has already called on the names of the angels and the name of God, now invokes the names of the patriarchs, but to no avail.  The one Name which would have helped is unknown to him.  Lilith sits up and speaks, in a demonic voice: "We are not afraid of you.  You have no power here, teacher."  Nicodemus, frightened, leaves as quickly as he can.  (Caution: scene may disturb some viewers) (Season 1, Episode 1)  


Matthew tells Jesus that he doesn't understand why Jesus chose to use salt as a metaphor for the Christian life.  Jesus: "Salt preserves meat from corruption.  It slows its decay.  I want My followers to be a people who hold back the evil of the world.  Salt also enhances the flavor of things.  I want My followers to renew the world and be part of its redemption.  Salt can also be mixed with honey and rubbed on the skin for maladies.  I want my people to participate in the healing of the world, not its destruction."  Matthew wonders aloud why Jesus would choose to speak in metaphors instead of speaking plainly.  Jesus: "These things will make sense to some, but not to others.  I don't want passive followers.  Those who are truly committed will peer deeply into it, looking for truth."
(Season 2, Episode 8)

Mary reads a letter sent from Mary and Martha, telling the disciples that Lazarus has died.  They are in shock, remembering that Jesus had told them that Lazarus's illness would not end in death.  Jesus is grieved, but tells His disciples they will return to Judea.  The disciples are afraid of returning to the place where they were almost stoned, but Jesus is firm.  Jesus: "Our friend has fallen asleep, but I will go and awaken him."  Judas insists that a man could recover from sleep, but this is not the kind of sleep Jesus means.  Jesus: "Lazarus has died.  And, for your sake, I'm glad I was not there...so that you may believe."
(Season 4, Episode 6)

Matthew greets his friend, the centurion Gaius.  He can tell the man is disturbed.  Gaius tells him his situation is complicated: "I'm helpless."  Matthew: "I complicate everything, but my Teacher, He makes life very simple.  Every morning I wake up, my ideas and fears are jumbled.  I feel overwhelmed with doubt and regret."  Gaius nods, feeling similar.  Matthew: "But, if I just pause for a moment and remember...I have only one thing to do today.  Follow Him.  The rest takes care of itself."
(Season 4, Episode 2)

Simon confesses to Eden that he doesn't have their financial situation under control.  He has been hiding the fact that their tax debts are so high they are in danger of losing their home.  Simon: "I did some things I'm not proud of to fix it, and now it's gone bad.  We're in trouble."  Simon tells his wife that he could be put in prison.  Simon, nearly frantic, feels he has only one option left: "I've got to spend the rest of the week doing nothing but catch every fish I can and hope I can fix this somehow!"  Eden, tears on her cheeks, tells her husband that his eyes have been closed for a long time: "Where is your faith?"  Simon: "Faith isn't gonna get me more fish."  But Eden doesn't mean faith for simply today's problem.  She has watched him trying to do everything by himself, without consulting God, for far too long.  Eden: "You have not pursued the Lord lately.  That is why you are stuck, and you feel desperate, and now you're off to try to fix it yourself again!"  Eden tells Simon to go.  Eden: "No more talking.  Maybe God can get your attention now."  (Season 1, Episode 4)


Jesus is speaking to a growing crowd.  A man has asked Him why it is that His words inspire some, but threaten others.  To explain, Jesus tells them the parable of the sower.  As He speaks, His disciples spread throughout the crowd, repeating His words to those far away.  Jesus: "A sower went out to sow.  And, as He sowed, some seeds fell along the path and the birds devoured them.  Others fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil.  Immediately, they sprang up, for there was no depth of soil.  But, when the sun rose, they were scorched.  And, since they had no root, they withered away.  Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.  Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundred-fold, some sixty, some thirty.  He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
(Season 3, Episode 8)

The rabbi approaches Jesus after His startling claim to be Messiah (see clip # CV11690).  "If You do not renounce Your words, we will have no choice but to follow the Law of Moses."  Jesus: "I AM the Law of Moses."  Infuriated, the men immediately seize Him and drag him outside the town.  Mary watches in horror as her Son is led away to be killed.  The crowd takes Him to the edge of a cliff, where the rabbi pronounces the sentence of death.  But, as the men step forward to stone Him, Jesus stops them with only His words.  He slips through the crowd unharmed and escapes. (Season 3, Episode 3)

Jesse is now a teenager (see clip # CV11639 for Jesse's backstory).  He has spent his adolescence on his mat, watching others live life.  Even now, he watches as his younger brother, Simon, plays with friends.  Simon sees Jesse watching and knows he feels left out.  He draws his friends over to Jesse's mat and they include him in their play.  Later, the brothers lie on their backs, looking at the stars together.  Finally, they end the evening by playing a game.  They share a secret handshake before lying down to sleep in their shared bedroom.  Years pass, and the boys are young men.  Their love for one another hasn't waned and they still end each night with their secret handshake.  (Season 2, Episode 4)

Matthew is speaking alone with Jesus.  He is hurt by the many ways Peter has lashed out at him.  Matthew, recalling some of Peter's harsh words: "He would never forget what I did to him and that he could never forgive me."  Jesus: "Have you asked for forgiveness?"  Matthew: "Why would I when he said he wouldn't forgive?  It's pointless."  Jesus: "Matthew.  You don't apologize to be forgiven.  You apologize to repent.  Forgiveness is a gift given from the other person."  But Matthew still doesn't understand why Peter has been given special leadership when he is so temperamental.  Jesus smiles: "I make people what they aren't.  You know that better than most."  But Matthew is still hurt that Jesus has elevated someone who has caused him so much pain.  Jesus: "There have been times when Peter has been overly harsh with you, and that has not pleased my Father in heaven.  Nor has it pleased Me."  But, Jesus asks Matthew to think about his situation in a different light: "Who harmed the other first?"  Matthew tries to soften his own sin: "I guess, in the abstract - -"  Jesus, interrupting: "No.  No.  Not in the abstract.  In fact."  Matthew starts to list the ways he harmed Peter.  And, as he says them aloud, he is struck by the gravity of his sins.  Jesus: "And you've never apologized for this?"  Matthew says he just wants to forget the past and keep the peace.  Jesus: "There is no peace when two of My followers hold resentment against one another.  You know what you must do."

Jesus and His disciples are in the midst of a angry crowd.  Knowing the disciples are fearful, Jesus sits them down to remind them about faith.  He asks them to recall what happened on the way to Jairus's house.  Thaddeus answers, saying that the bleeding woman was healed.  Jesus: "How?"  Andrew: "By touching the fringe of Your garment."  Jesus: "No.  My friends, you forget so quickly.  You are dear to me, but your memories are short."  Matthew looks at his notes, quoting Jesus's words: "Your faith has made you well."  Jesus: "Her faith.  Many of you are afraid right now, instead of choosing to have faith in Me."  Judas: "Rabbi, increase our faith!"  Jesus: "If you had faith the size of a grain of mustard seed, you could say to a mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.  Truly, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to a mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move!  Nothing will be impossible to you."  Nathaniel: "How?  How do we get there?"  Philip, to Jesus: "You increase our faith."  Jesus, pinching His fingers to show a tiny gap: "It's not about size, Philip.  It's about who your faith is in.  If your faith is secure in God, trusting His promises, choosing His will for your life instead of your own, this sized faith is enough."
(Season 3, Episode 8)

Ramah has just died.  Thomas is beside himself with grief.  He looks up and sees Jesus standing close by.  Thomas: "Heal her!  Fix this!  Please!"  Jesus simply looks at him with compassion: "Thomas, I’m so sorry."  Thomas: "Rabbi, you don't have to let this happen!  Just take it back!  Just take it back!"  Jesus shakes His head: "It is not her time."  He steps closer to Thomas: "I love you, Thomas.  He loves you.  I'm so sorry."  Thomas falls to the ground, weeping.

Ever since Jesus was detained by the Romans, His disciples have been worried and watching for Him.  So, when He returns to camp and says He's been there awhile, they are upset He didn't come to them immediately.  John: "So, what were You doing out here?"  Jesus: "Praying, John."  Jesus reminds them He told them He'd be back.  They will have to learn to trust Him and continue to do His work no matter what the circumstances are.  Jesus: "What are you going to do when I'm no longer here?"  The disciples are chagrined and express their willingness to do better and continue learning.  John asks Jesus to teach them a prayer.  Jesus: "This is what I like to see.  And prayer is the first step in getting the mind and the heart right.  It's why you see Me going to it so often."  Peter: "So, teach us to pray like You do.  Please."  Jesus: "When we pray, we want to be sure to first start with acknowledging our Father in heaven and His greatness.  So, you can say, 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name.'"  Jesus continues to teach them the Lord's prayer.

When the Lord is finished posing divine questions to Job, our hero seems satisfied. God rebukes the three original friends and rewards Job for his faithfulness: blessing him with double the wealth and 10 beautiful children. (Job 42:1-17)

Dr. Risner discusses Gnosticism.  "Gnosticism is an ancient belief system that was a strong competitor to the early Church. Because it used Biblical language, it used 'Jesus stuff' as part of its presentation of what salvation meant and what the nature of the world was."  "I view this part of Ufology as nothing more than intelligent, demonic beings, using old lies and repackaging them for a 20th and 21st Century audience."


Jesus has just told the parable of the sheep and the goats and Rabbi Shmuel is struggling to digest it (see clip # CV11917).  Shmuel: "This is a hard teaching.  The Son of Man, the Messiah, is identified with the lowest of all people?  The hungry, the poor, the stranger?"  Shmuel looks somewhat disgusted.  Jesus: "That's what I've been preaching from My opening sentence on the mount."  Shmuel: "But what of all the Torah requirements and traditions upheld by our forefathers?"  Jesus tells Shmuel he has overlooked the words of the prophet Micah: "He has told you, oh man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?"  Shmuel is still trying to justify himself by his works.  He wonders how love has anything to do with keeping God's commandments.  Jesus: "A new commandment I give you, that you love one another just as I have loved you.  By this, all people will know that you are My disciples."  Shmuel: "What of the Temple, the sacrifices, the law, the feasts?  Are not keeping these how nations will know we are God's people?"  Jesus tells Shmuel the former things are all fulfilled in Him.  Shmuel: "You would do away with them?:  Jesus: "I said fulfilled, not done away."

After God's hand of protection is removed, disaster strikes as all of Job's servants and livestock are either killed or taken. Then the worst thing Job fears: all seven of his children are killed in a windstorm. Though devastated with such tragedy, Job does not sin or blame God.  (Job 1:13-22)


Philip has brought his friend, Nathaniel, to meet Jesus.  Jesus greets them, calling Nathaniel a truth-teller.  Jesus: "You are a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit."  Nathaniel looks in surprise at Philip: "What did you say about me?"  Philip denies saying anything.  Nathaniel looks at Jesus with suspicion: "What is this?  How do you know me?"  Jesus: "I have known you long before Philip called you to come and see."  Nathaniel looks back at Philip, questioningly.  Jesus: "Don't look at him.  Look at Me."  Jesus, stepping closer to look Nathaniel in the eye: "When you were in your lowest moment, and you were alone, I did not turn My face from you.  I saw you under the fig tree."  (See clip # CV11615, when Nathaniel cried out to God to see him.)  Nathaniel, tears in his eyes, whispers: "Rabbi.  You are the Son of God.  The King of Israel."  Jesus, putting a hand on Nathaniel's shoulder: "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' you believe?  You are going to see many greater things than that.  Like Jacob, you are going to see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."  (Season 2, Episode 2)


Jesus has just invited Nicodemus to follow Him (see clip # CV11593).  Nicodemus, although he is beginning to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, thinks of everything he would lose by leaving his life as a revered Pharisee.  Nicodemus: "But, I…I can't…"  Jesus, knowing his thoughts: "You have a position in the Sanhedrin.  You have family.  You are getting advanced in years.  I understand...but the invitation is still open."  Nicodemus: "The invitation to what, exactly?  The invitation to lead a nomadic life?  To give up who I am?"  Jesus: "It's true.  There is a lot you would give up.  But what you would gain is far greater and more lasting."  Nicodemus, chuckling wryly: "Is this another one of Your 'born again' mysteries?"  Jesus smiles: "Maybe.  I know mysteries aren't easy for a scholar.  Think about it."  (Season 1, Episode 7)


Jesus has followed the mourners to Lazarus's tomb.  Jesus: "Take away the stone."  The people are shocked.  Martha: "Lord, by this time there will be an odor.  He's been dead for four days."  Jesus, gently: "Martha, surely you know that is a minor matter.  Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?  Your only priority in this moment is faith."  Several of the disciples move the stone from the mouth of the tomb.  A horrible stench emanates, affecting everyone present.  It is clear that Lazarus is indeed dead.  Jesus takes a few steps towards the tomb, raising His eyes to heaven and praying: "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.  I know that You always hear Me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that You sent Me."  Jesus raises an arm, calling loudly: "Lazarus, come out!"  Everyone watches in amazement as Lazarus, his entire body swathed in burial cloths, walks out of the tomb.  Women scream.  Others gasp.  Even the disciples look shocked.  Mary and Martha are overjoyed.  Jesus orders them to remove the cloths from Lazarus.  They quickly obey.  The first face Lazarus sees is his sister, Martha.

The serpent deceives Eve as she and Adam eat from the forbidden tree; they realize they are naked and experience shame and fear for the fist time. (Gen. 3:1-6)


Mary runs into the bustling courtyard and frantically approaches a tradesman.  He shrugs off her concern when she tells him she has lost her son and so she continues to make her way through the crowds of people, calling out for Jesus.  Within moments, Mary hears the voices of her son and husband.  She turns, seeing Joseph and Jesus coming towards her.  She wraps her arms tightly around Jesus, telling Him how frightened they have been since they discovered Him missing.  Jesus seems confused: "I was supposed to be with my Father."  Mary: "Then why weren't You?"  Jesus: "I was."  Mary looks at Joseph.  He nods his head toward the temple, where he found Jesus.  Joseph: "It was incredible, Mary.  You should have seen Him.  He was teaching when I found Him.  The rabbis, the scribes, the scholars....they could not believe their ears."  Jesus: "Didn't you know I must be in my Father's house?"  Mary, still looking worried: "It is too early for all...this."  Jesus puts a hand on her shoulder: "If not now, when?"  Mary pleads with her son: "Just help us get through all of this with you, please."  Jesus nods.  As the three walk back towards their caravan, Joseph tells Jesus that He owes His mother for making her worry: "I'm going to make Him rub your feet."  Jesus, laughing: "Abba!" (Season 1, Episode 5)


A woman sits down at the table in front of Jesus, hoping He will tell her when the end days will be.  Mara, eagerly: "You said angels would come and separate the evil from the righteous.  How soon do You think that day will come, Rabbi?"  Jesus: "My friends and I recently returned from a wedding.  The father of the bride was a man of great wealth.  As the night got longer, near the end of the feast, what do you think the servants were doing back home?"  Peter: "Waiting.  If they're good at their jobs."  Jesus: "Waiting where?  In their rooms?  In the kitchen?"  Mary: "At the gate."  Jesus: "Doing what?  Just standing there in the dark?"  Andrew: "Holding lamps."  Jesus: "But, why?  Why wouldn't they just relax?"  Mary: "Because they don't know when he's coming back."  Jesus: "Suppose they figured the master was delayed in coming, so they took a nap on his bed?  Got drunk on his wine and let their lamps burn down?"  The people all agree the servants would be fired.  Jesus: "So it will be at the end of all things.  Neither the angels nor the Son of Man know the day or the hour, but only the Father.  So, you must always be ready, with your lamps trimmed and burning brightly."


Jesus and the disciples are on a journey when Jesus turns down an unexpected path: "We're going through Samaria."  Andrew's mouth gapes: "Are you telling a joke?"  Jesus: "There's a place there I want to stop.  Plus, it makes our journey shorter by almost half."  Matthew, clutching the map: "And our odds of violent attack more likely by double."  Jesus laughs: "Is that an exact figure?"  Andrew grabs the map, showing Jesus a way he considers safer.  Jesus: "Did you join Me for safety reasons?"  Big James: "But, Rabbi, they're Samaritans!"  Jesus: "Good observation, Big James.  What's your point?"  Big James: "Rabbi, these were the people that profaned our temple.  They hated us."  John: "They fought against us in the Maccabean wars.  I haven't even spoken to a Samaritan."  Jesus: "And we destroyed their temple.  And none of you here were present for any of these things."  Jesus tells the disciples to just follow Him.  (Season 1, Episode 8)

Now this idea was popularized through the novel by Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code. You'll see it picked up on any number of internet sites.  And there's just one little problem: it just isn't true." The Jews are gathered outside Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.  Jesus and his disciples sit in one of the many temporary shelters, sharing a meal.  Matthew looks up at the branches forming the ceiling: "This thatched roof won't keep the rain out."  Little James and Mary tell Matthew that it was built that way on purpose.  Mary: "If a few raindrops get through, it is a reminder of our dependence on God, of His provision, and of how our people were so vulnerable in the wilderness.  And He brought us through."  Mary Magdalene: "There was a time in my life, in my old life, where I had to sleep outside.  It is a good reminder of how I was delivered from that."  Jesus: "This time of living in booths is also a leveler of people.  Wealthy, poor, everyone sleeps outside, as equals."

Nicodemus is trying to explain to the other Pharisees why he was unable to cast the demons out of Lilith (see clip #CV11459).  Nicodemus: "Brothers, when we follow God's law to the letter, God is alive through us.  He lives through you and you and you (Nicodemus points to each of them in turn), if you follow His law."  Pharisees: "Yes, Rabbi."  Nicodemus: "Now, imagine, if you can, one who heeds only wickedness for a lifetime.  Demons root in wicked souls as pigs in filth.  A possession like this was fatal.  And souls such as hers, sadly, are beyond all human aid." (Season 1, Episode 1)

Jesus knows His crucifixion is coming soon.  Deeply troubled, he prays the words of David from Psalm 38: "I groan because of the tumult of my heart.  O Lord, all my longing is before You.  My sighing is not hidden from You.  My heart throbs, my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes, it has also gone from me.  My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off."  Jesus stops at a distance to watch olives being pressed.  As He sees the olives being crushed under the tremendous weight of the stones and the pressure, He weeps.  More stones are added and the pressure is increased.  The sacred olive oil pours out from between the stones.  Jesus takes a shuddering breath, seeing in the pressing a picture of His future suffering.  He will be crushed, and His blood will pour out to cover the sins of the world.

Mary is making her way through the marketplace when she is confronted by Nicodemus: "It's you!  It's real!"  (Nicodemus had heard rumors that Mary had been healed of her demon possession and he has been sent out to investigate the miracle.)  Mary looks wary and doesn't remember him.  She starts to walk away, but Nicodemus begs her to speak with him: "I am a man of God and I believe you have experienced a miracle, Mary!"  Nicodemus, believing that it was his own efforts that healed Mary: "I just want to understand how it happened.  How long after my visit did you feel the change?"  Mary: "It wasn't anything you did.  It was Someone else."  Nicodemus is stunned.  Someone else did what he, a leader of Pharisees, could not do?  He asks Mary to explain.  Mary, emotionally: "He called me Mary.  He said I am His.  I am redeemed."  Nicodemus: "Who did this?"  Mary: "I don't know His Name.  And, even if I did, I could not tell you.  His time for men to know has not yet come."  Nicodemus wonders who this Man could be: "Would you at least know Him if you saw Him again?"  Mary, smiling: "I don't understand it myself.  But here is what I can tell you:  I was one way...and now I am completely different.  And the thing that happened in between...was Him.  So, yes, I will know Him for the rest of my life." (Season 1, Episode 2)  


Joshua enters the tent where Moses is working on a piece of brass.  He tells Moses that many more have died from snake bites, but says that moving to a new location would be problematic because of the sick.  Moses: "After today, the only Hebrews too sick to walk are those who choose to remain so."  He continues to pound on the brass, forming it into the shape of a snake.  Joshua is angry that Moses seems to be "hiding in his tent" while his people are dying.  He thinks Moses must have misunderstood God's instructions.  Moses: "I've learned to do what He says, without questioning."  Moses tells Joshua to hand him a pole.  He attaches the snake to it.  Joshua: "None of this makes any sense!"  Moses: "How do you explain the Red Sea?  Any Israelite who looks upon this serpent and believes in the power of Adonai will be healed.  It's an act of faith, not reason!  Faith." (Season 1, Episode 7)


Tamar, Mary, and Ramah are preparing to move into Matthew's donated home.  Tamar worries that they are low on both food and money.  Mary, looking at the necklace around Tamar's neck: "Maybe you could sell some of your jewelry?"  Tamar, looking horrified: "It's all very personal."  Ramah: "Every single piece?"  Tamar, closing the subject: "I said, all."  Ramah, kindly: "We've each given up some of our personal lives to follow Jesus."  Mary: "I gave up a name."  Ramah, smiling: "But, we each gained so much!"
(Season 3, Episode 2)

Veronica, subject to bleeding for 12 years, is an outcast even to her own family (see clip #CV11701).  She lives like a nomad, earning money by washing clothes and praying that no one notices her ailment.  One morning, she is returning clothes to a customer when he spots some blood on her foot.  The man, furious, yells for everyone to hear: "Unclean!"  He throws the clothing back in her face: "You deceitful woman!  Now I am unclean until sundown.  Get out!  You are not to be in the street or among us!  Shame!"  Veronica picks up the spilled clothes, weeping.  She begs the man for forgiveness, but he has nothing but anger for her.

Peter and Matthew are meeting with Gaius.  Peter knows the Roman ruler's son has been sick and asks why he hasn't brought him to Jesus to be healed.  Gaius: "Because I'm not worthy!"  Peter laughs: "Neither was I."  Matthew, smiling: "Neither was I."  Gaius, protesting: "You do not know the things I've done."  Peter: "You know, that's exactly what I said."  Gaius: "I'm an outsider."  Peter: "One of His favorite kinds of people."  Gaius, incredulous: "Someone who's not Jewish?"  Peter and Matthew, together: "Yeah."  Matthew: "Those dividing lines don't matter to Him."  Peter, intently: "Gaius.  Do you believe He's from God?"  Gaius begins to weep tears of joy: "I do believe.  I know He can heal my son."
(Season 4, Episode 4)

The children are helping Jesus with His work when He asks them: "Do you all know how to pray the Shema?"  The children say they do.  Jesus: "Oh, I would love to hear it."  He points at one boy and asks him to lead the prayer.  The children recite together, in one voice: "Hear, Israel.  The Lord is our God.  The Lord is one.  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your might..."  While the children recite the prayer, Jesus listens, sometimes smiling, sometimes praying along with them.  When they are done, He is nearly in tears: "Beautiful." (Season 1, Episode 3)


A leper slowly approaches Jesus and His disciples.  The man is dirty and unkempt, his open sores clearly visible to all.  The disciples are frightened and warn him to keep away, but Jesus approaches the man without fear.  Leper: "Please.  Please."  He falls to his knees in front of Jesus: "Please don't turn away from me."  Jesus: "I won't."  Leper: "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.  I submit to You."  The leper weeps, waiting for Jesus to respond.  Jesus kneels down in front of the man: "I am willing."  Jesus puts a hand on the man: "Be cleansed."  The leper and the disciples watch in amazement as the open sores close in front of their eyes.  Soon, the man is whole.  He laughs joyously, embracing Jesus: "Thank You!  What can I ever do..."  Jesus: "Do not say anything to anyone."  Leper: "You do not seek Your own honor?"  Jesus: "Please, just do me this one thing.  Go, show yourself to the priest.  Let them inspect you and see that you are cleansed.  Make the proper offering in the temple, as Moses commanded.  And go on your way."  The man beams, overjoyed. (Season 1, Episode 6)

It is Purim, and all over the countryside the Jews are celebrating the holiday.  Inside a small Jewish home, a father retells his family the story of how God used Esther to save the Jewish people from Haman's schemes.  Each time Haman's name is mentioned, the women and children hiss and pound on the table.  In another home, the same story is being told, accompanied by singing and noisemakers.  All over the town, the Jews celebrate with feasting, music, and dancing, remembering back to a time when God intervened to save their people.
(Season 3, Episode 7)

Jesus and his disciples are at the wedding in Cana.  Mary asks Thaddeus about his work as a stone mason, comparing it to the blacksmith work of his father.  Thaddeus tells her that mason work is more final.  As he explains his statement, we see Jesus, in the back room, overseeing servants filling jars with water.  Thaddeus, speaking in the background: "If the smith wants to change the horseshoe, he has only to put the iron back into the fire and reshape it to fit his designs.  Once you make that first cut into the stone, it can't be undone."  When the jars are completely filled, Jesus asks everyone to leave the room.  He stares at the jars solemnly, knowing that this, like Thaddeus's stonework, is a permanent action.  It will forever change the rest of His time on Earth.  Jesus stares at His reflection in the water.  Thaddeus: "It sets in motion a series of choices.  What used to be a shapeless block of limestone or granite begins its long journey of transformation.  And it will never be the same."  Jesus takes a deep breath, praying: "I am ready, Father."  He dips His hand into the water and cups a handful of the liquid.  He pulls it up, wine dripping from His fingers.  


David is teaching his son about the Passover lamb.  A spotless lamb is brought to him, and David anoints its feet with oil.  David explains to Daniel that the lamb will now live with them for the next five days: "We have to mark him as special and keep him clean.  After five days, we are going to offer him as a sacrifice to atone for our sins."  David gently lifts the lamb into his arms and carries him into the palace: "This is the sacrifice of the Lord's Passover, for He passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when He struck the Egyptians."  Later, as they eat unleavened bread, David and Abigail continue to teach their son about the meaning of Passover.

Nicodemus has asked his student, Shmuel, to read from Isaiah 40.  Shmuel reluctantly admits the passage sounds like it describes the "heretic" John the Baptist.  Shmuel believes that John has misappropriated Isaiah's words to give a spiritual God a human form: "John said, 'After me comes He who is mightier than I, the strap of Whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and tie.'  God has no body!  He cannot wear sandals!  God cannot take human form.  To say so is blasphemy."  Nicodemus laughs: "And where does it say that God cannot take human form?"  Shmuel quotes a couple of verses from the Old Testament, but Nicodemus has an answer for them: "You would place limits on the Almighty?"  Shmuel continues arguing, holding strictly to the Law.  But Nicodemus want him to understand that he may have misinterpreted the law, that the fulfillment he looks for may not be the one God intended.  Nicodemus tells Shmuel they will always be students, always have the need to seek understanding.  He believes that rigid adherence to tradition will prevent future growth.  Nicodemus points to the example of the Sadducees, who only believe the first five books of the Bible are inspired.  They miss out on the full richness of God's complete revelation.  Nicodemus: "I don't want to live in some bleak past where God cannot do anything new."  Shmuel: "God gave us His law!  We must uphold it!"  Nicodemus: "We can do both!  Let's look to the ancient roads, where the good way is, and walk in it, as Jeremiah said, and still keep our eyes open to the startling and the unexpected!"

Fearful and ashamed, Adam and Eve hide from God in the garden. Finding them, God realizes they have eaten from the forbidden tree and reveals the curse on the serpent, woman and man.     (Gen. 3:8-19)


Barnaby has brought Shula to Jesus to ask Him to cure her blindness.  Shula, who hasn't seen in over ten years, doesn't want to bother Jesus with her troubles.  But Barnaby desperately wants his friend to be healed: "Please.  She won't ask."  Jesus: "Shula, are you afraid to ask for healing?"  Shula: "Yes."  Jesus: "Do you have faith that I can heal you?"  Shula: "Of course."  Jesus: "Then, why haven't you asked?"  Shula feels her troubles are nothing compared to those of others, and she doesn't want to be a bother.  Jesus commends Shula for the faith He has always witnessed in her.  He prays, putting a hand over Shula's eyes.  At first, she is afraid to open them, but when she does, she can see again.  Shula and Barnaby rejoice.  As the two friends start toward home, Barnaby is amazed to discover that Jesus has healed him as well.
(Season 3, Episode 6)

Jesus is explaining to Nicodemus why He has come to Earth.  He reminds him of the Israelites, dying in the desert of snake bites (see clip # CV11591), and of the bronze snake God had Moses make to heal them.  Jesus: "Moses lifted the bronze serpent in the desert and people only needed to look at it.  So will the Son of Man be lifted up, so that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life."  Nicodemus: "Our people are not dying from snake bites.  They're dying from taxation and oppression."  Jesus: "I did not come to deliver the people from Rome."  Nicodemus: "Then from what?"  Jesus: "From sin.  From spiritual death.  God loves the world in this way, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, Nicodemus.  He sent Him to save it through Him.  It's as simple as Moses's serpent on the pole.  Whoever believes in Him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already."  (Season 1, Episode 7)


When Martha tells her sister that Jesus has come, Mary runs to meet Him.  She falls at His feet, weeping, echoing Martha's words: "Lord, if You were here, my brother would not have died!  We sent word, why didn't You come?  Why did You wait?  Why?"  Jesus, moved by her pain: "I will show you why.  Where have you laid him?"  Martha: "Lord, come and see."  Jesus shudders, struck to the heart to see the open grief of His friends and loved ones.  He looks around at all their faces, feeling their sorrow.  Deeply troubled by their pain, he begins to weep, falling to His knees.  The disciples look at one another, stunned.  They have never seen Jesus like this before.  Mary runs to hold her Son and Jesus weeps with her.

Michael Arias

Eden has befriended a woman named Veronica who is an outcast from the rest of the people.  The two women are beside a spring, washing their laundry.  Eden is stunned to hear that Veronica has been suffering for twelve years with a bleeding disorder that has caused her to be cut off even from her own family.  Eden: "This is why you're unmarried."  Veronica, bitterly, as she washes the blood out of her clothes: "I'm 'un' everything.  I haven't seen my parents in years.  They won't allow me in the house.  You'd better keep your distance, if you touch any of it you'll be ritually unclean and unable to touch your husband for seven days."  Veronica tells Eden that their is no cure for her illness and her money all went to doctors that only made her worse.  Eden: "So, what do you do with no hope?"  Veronica looks surprised: "I haven't lost all hope.  There's no cure by doctors, but there might be something I haven't done yet."
(Season 3, Episode 4)

Jairus has asked to meet with Yussif to discuss a secret letter the Pharisee wrote regarding the Sermon on the Mount.  Jairus is beginning to believe that Jesus is the Messiah and he suspects Yussif does as well.  Jairus: "Do you stand behind every word (you have written)?"  Yussif looks frightened and Jairus understands the danger associated with following Jesus.  Jairus wants to reassure Yussif that he has reached the same amazing conclusions: "I feel it too, Rabbi.  I have spent the past month comparing this sermon to Torah, rereading old prophecies...I see light, Rabbi.  Torah spells out the coming of this Man.  It's dogma and tradition that have misunderstood the picture of a military figure.  If everything you're saying is true, do you know what this means?  It is more than just that He is a great new rabbi.  He could be..."  Jairus stops himself, to amazed to say the words out loud.  (Season 3, Episode 4)


Lilith is at Sol's tavern, in despair.  The attempt to free her from demonic possession failed (see clip #CV11459) and even her suicide attempt came to nothing.  Sol, feeling compassion for his friend: "I don't know what else I can do to help you."  Lilith gestures towards the alcohol: "Give me that.  Lots of it."  Sol: "That's not going to solve your problems.  It's meant to distract from them."  But Lilith is insistent, and so, Sol complies.  He pours her a large cupful.  But, as she reaches her hand out to take it, a hand covers her own.  She looks up.  A Man she doesn't know stands at her side.  Jesus, looking on her with compassion: "That's not for you."  At the touch, Lilith's head begins to ache as the demons inside protest.  Jesus looks sorrowful at the sight of her pain.  Lilith runs out of the tavern, telling Jesus to leave her alone.  As she walks quickly away, holding her head, Jesus follows.  He calls out to her: "Mary.  Mary of Magdala."  Lilith drops her cup and it shatters on the ground.  She turns.  No one knows her true name: "Who are you?  How do you know my name?"  Jesus then quotes the Scripture verse that has always comforted Mary in her fear (see clip #CV11458): "Thus says the Lord who created you, and He who formed you, 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you.  I have called you by name.  You...are mine.'"  Jesus puts his hands on Mary's temples and she is healed.  She collapses against Him, weeping. (Season 1, Episode 1)


Jairus has brought Jesus to his house to heal his daughter.  But when they arrive, they can already hear the mourners giving the death cries.  Jairus is met by a Pharisee, who tells him his daughter is indeed dead.  Jesus puts his hand on Jairus's shoulder: "Do not be afraid.  Only believe.  She will be well."  The Pharisee tries to make Jesus leave, but he has no power to stop Him from entering the house.  Jesus sends the mourners away: "What are you doing?  She isn't dead, but sleeping."  Although they laugh at Him, they cannot stand against HIs words: "Everyone out!"  Jesus goes into the girl's room, where her mother is mourning her loss.  Jairus tells his wife to trust in Jesus.  Jesus kneels by her bed and uncovers her face.  He prays silently, taking her hand in His.  "Little lamb, arise."  Immediately, the girl awakens as if from sleep.  Her parents are overjoyed and even the disciples are amazed at this new display of Jesus's power.
(Season 3, Episode 5)

Tamar knows Mary is frustrated with her, but she doesn't understand why.  Mary, goaded into revealing the source of her annoyance, tells Tamar that she can't understand Tamar's boldness.  "You push your way to the front of the crowd, you tore the roof off a house, and then you proclaimed for all to hear, 'I know You can do this,' and the first words out of His mouth to you were, 'Your faith is beautiful.'  Do you know where Jesus found me?  In a bar, drunk, possessed."  Though she doesn't seem to be aware of it, Mary is jealous of Tamar's confidence in Christ.  Mary herself is constantly aware of her own sinful past: "I'm doing everything I can, day after day, and I'm afraid I'm still broken.  I worry I will never be enough."  Tamar: "Mary, you are amazing.  Can't you see it?"  Mary: "I don't think we're supposed to see it.  I can't imagine doing what you do."  Mary sees Tamar's confidence as entitlement and believes she is prideful, but Tamar thinks Mary's view is skewed.  Tamar: "I am sorry for the shame and regret that you feel.  Truly, it must be very painful.  But, Jesus forgave you and you choose to hold onto it."
(Season 3, Episode 6)

Jesus stands next to a sheep pen and begins to teach his disciples using a parable of a shepherd.  Jesus (from John 10): "He who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.  But He who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.  The sheep hear His voice, and He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out."  Jesus continues teaching, telling the disciples that those who will follow Him know His voice.  They will run from a stranger because they don't know his voice.  Some religious leaders have overheard the teaching and are muttering amongst themselves.  Even Jesus's disciples are confused, so Jesus elaborates: "I am the door.  If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy."  Jesus tells them that He is the Good Shepherd and will lay down His life for His sheep.  
(Season 4, Episode 6)

Nathaniel is a broken man.  His dream of being an architect of synagogues was crushed after one of his buildings collapsed during construction.  He sits down beneath a fig tree to cry out to God in his distress.  Opening the satchel containing his precious drawings, he holds them out to the heavens: "This was done for You!  Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe."  Weeping, he burns them and begins to pray using the words of Psalm 102 (The Prayer of the Afflicted): "Hear my prayer, O Lord.  Let my cry come to You.  Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress.  Incline Your ear to me!"  Nathaniel is trying to understand why God would allow this disaster when he was just trying to serve Him.  He cries out from his heart, but feels like he gets no response: "Do not hide Your face from me!  Do you see me?  Do you see me?"  (Season 2, Episode 2)


Philip asks Matthew if it was hard to leave his wealth to follow Jesus.  Matthew, with some surprise: "No.  It should have been.  I was comfortable."  He tells Philip that his former life wasn't really that satisfying.  He had no relationship with his parents, he felt guilt for the source of his money, and even his gifting was meaningless.  It wasn't hard to let go of that life, but his new life is uncomfortable because no one likes him due to his past.  Philip: "If this Rabbi, Jesus of Nazareth, called you, it means you already have everything you need for right now.  He'll give you the rest in time."  Matthew: "I just don't know what He sees in me.  He's a religious teacher, and I know very little about religion."  Philip: "From what I understand, Jesus doesn't love everything about religion.  Matthew, what you think you know doesn't matter.  Only that Jesus chose you.  That's where your confidence comes from now."  (Season 2, Episode 2)


Avner and Nadab have been sent by John the Baptist to ask Jesus a particular question.  Jesus is surrounded by a crowd of people who have just witnessed Him healing the blind, lame, and mute.  Jesus: "So, what does John want to know?"  The two men look uncomfortable, but Jesus insists they ask their question in front of the crowd.  Nadab: "He sent us to ask You if You are really the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?"  Jesus smiles, understanding that John has been in prison a long time.  The men tell Jesus that John heard of Jesus's promise to "proclaim liberty to the captives" and has begun to wonder why he is still a prisoner.  Jesus: "There are many kinds of captivity that keep people."  Avner: "What are we supposed to report back?"  Jesus: "Go and tell John what you hear and see.  The blind receive their sight.  The lame walk.  The lepers are cleansed.  The mute speak.  And the poor have the good news preached to them.  And blessed is the one who is not offended by Me.  Go, relay to my cousin what you have seen and heard here today.  And, add to that, the dead are raised as well."

Young Jesse is climbing a tree when a disastrous fall paralyzes him from the waist down.  His anxious father carries the boy's unconscious body into their home, where a doctor delivers the bad news.  Jesse will never walk again.  He watches silently from his mat as his parents weep.  Later, Jesse is sitting on his mat outside, watching other children play.  His father sees the boy's sad face and his heart is in anguish for his son.  Out of desperation, Jesse's parents hire a witch doctor to come and administer "healing."  But no healing will come. (Season 2, Episode 4)


Yussif has brought his friend, Jairus, to meet Jesus.  Jairus walks slowly towards Jesus, tears in his eyes.  He drops to his knees in awe: "I know You."  Jairus tells Jesus that he has heard of Jesus's ministry and miracles: "Please, my daughter is dying.  But, come.  Come and lay Your hands on her, and she will live."  Jesus, amazed by the man's faith: "You've never met Me, yet you have this much faith that I can heal your daughter?"  Jairus, simply: "I know You.  Please."  Jesus, smiling: "Take me to her."

God creates livestock, creatures that crawl, every beast and all wildlife. He also creates man and calls him Adam. God gives man dominion, plants a garden and places Adam there to tend and cultivate. (Gen. 1:24-2:6)


It is nighttime when young Mary comes out of the tent and approaches her father.  She tells him she cannot sleep.  Father: "Why can't you sleep?"  Mary: "I'm scared."  Father: "Of what?"  Mary: "I don't know."  Father: "What do we do when we are scared?"  Mary: "We say the words."  Father: "Adonai's words.  From the prophet?"  Mary: "Isaiah."  Father: "From the prophet Isaiah, right."  Mary's father quotes the familiar Scripture passage that he often uses to comfort his frightened daughter: "Thus says the Lord who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not...'"  Mary's father encourages her to say the words herself and so Mary finishes the recital of the passage: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you.  I have called you by name.  You are mine."  Father, repeating the comforting words to his daughter: "You are mine."  Mary should not fear because she has been redeemed by God. (Season 1, Episode 1)  


A man in the crowd asks Jesus to show them a sign.  Jesus: "I know you want more signs and wonders, so you can believe for sure.  And I have done them.  But, it is an evil generation that seeks a sign.  And, when all you seek are signs and wonders, no sign will be given to you, except the sign of Jonah.  For, as Jonah became a sign to the people of Ninevah, so will the Son of Man be to this generation."  Jesus tells the crowd and the Pharisees that the people of Ninevah will condemn this evil generation for their unbelief.  Jesus: "For they repented at the preaching of Jonah and, behold, something greater than Jonah is here."

Jesus has come to Peter's house to speak with Peter's wife, Eden.  He tells her that He knows the sacrifices He has asked Peter to make will be shared by her.  Jesus: "You have a role to play in all of this."  Eden, tears in her eyes: "Do I?"  Jesus: "You will know in time."  He tells Eden that He wants to ease the burden He knows she carries: "I see you.  You understand?  I know it is not easy to be at home when your husband is out doing all of this, even when you are excited about it and proud of him.  So, I wouldn't ask you to do this without taking care of a few things."  Jesus walks into Ima's room, where the fever is raging in her unconscious body.  He takes her hand and looks up to heaven, silently praying.  Jesus, looking at Ima: "Leave her."  Immediately, Ima sits up with a gasp.  The fever is gone and the color is returned to her face.  She looks around the room in surprise.  She sees Jesus kneeling beside her bed, smiling at her.  Ima, shocked to see a strange man in her bedroom: "Who are you?"

A year after Noah, his family and animals entered the ark, God opens the door to release them.  He commands them to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the Earth. God makes a promise to never again destroy the Earth in this manner and sets a rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant with man and all living creatures. (Gen. 8:13-9:17)


Simon has come to Jesus, hoping to set up some kind of structure of authority within the group of disciples.  He argues that the larger numbers have brought in more opinions, and, at times, it is difficult to come to a consensus.  Jesus: "You have my instructions."  Simon: "But how we get there, how we achieve it, sometimes there's a lot of noise."  Jesus, already knowing the answer: "So, what are you suggesting?"  Simon tells Jesus they need a way to formalize the decision-making process.  He suggests that all ideas be filtered through by James and then brought to him (Simon) for consideration.  Jesus kindly tells Simon that, while He cherishes his leadership skills, they will be needed in the future, not now.  Jesus: "Every one of these people I have called for a reason.  Each of them brings something unique and important to the whole.  I want every voice heard, and none silenced.  Everyone can learn from each other."  Simon: "Yes, but some people are troubled by tiny things and they slow us down."  Jesus, patiently: "I won't ask who you mean by that.  But, I will say, if someone is thinking about things you feel slow everyone down, maybe you need to slow down.  One day, Simon, there will need to be more structure, and I see you playing a big part in it."  Simon: "Out of all humility, Rabbi, why not now?"  Jesus: "Because I am still here."  (Season 2, Episode 2)

The disciples and Mary are sitting around the fire when someone asks Mary about her experiences as Jesus's mother.  Mary looking thoughtful, telling them nothing about the birth was easy, but it was different than she had expected.  Somehow, she hadn't expected the Son of God to be like a normal baby.  He was dirty.  He was cold.  He needed her.  Mary: "It actually made me think, for just one moment, is this really the Son of God?  But we know He was.  I don't know what I expected, but he was crying and He needed me.  And I wondered how long that would last.  He doesn't need me anymore.  He hasn't needed me for a long time, I suppose.  I wish I could say that made me happy.  But...as a mom...it makes me a little sad sometimes."  (Season 2, Episode 3)

The disciples are discussing their former expectations of the Messiah as it relates to Jesus.  John: "Isn't the Messiah supposed to come at a time when all is holy?"  James, quoting: "And there shall be no unrighteousness in them on His day, for they shall all be holy and their King shall be the Lord Messiah." John jokes that in order to fulfill that prophecy they would need to clean up the Red Quarter first.  Mary: "I don't think He is waiting for us to be holy.  I think He is here because we can't be holy without Him."  (Season 2, Episode 3)


Jesus is preparing for the Sermon on the Mount.  He tells Matthew, who is recording His words, that He has a map that will allow people to find Him.  As Matthew takes notes, Jesus looks down on the camp where His disciples are sleeping.  He begins to speak: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven..."  As Jesus speaks the Beatitudes, we see scenes of the lives of his disciples illustrating each one.  Jesus is remembering their acts of service, humility, and love as he talks about the way Christ-followers are supposed to live.   Finally, he looks at Matthew, who is often misunderstood and ridiculed even by those closest to him: "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven."  Matthew smiles: "But how is it the map?"  Jesus: "If someone wants to find Me, those are the groups they should look for."

After being driven out of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve have two sons: Cain and then Abel. When they're older, Cain becomes a gardener and Abel a shepherd of sheep. Both present God with an offering, and when God accepts Abel's offering and rejects Cain's, the elder brother is enraged and kills his brother Abel -- prompting God to banish Cain for the remainder of his life.  (Gen. 4:1-12)


"So, at the end of the day, we have a really strange mixture of Biblical theology, the supernatural world, the unseen world; mixed in with all this UFO stuff: sightings, alleged alien contact and obductions. What do we do with all this? How do we process it? I really do think processing is the key. We need to be honest. The world is a lot stranger than what we think it is." 


Jesus asks Matthew for his thoughts on the Sermon on the Mount.  Matthew, after a bit of hesitation: "If I do the math in terms of good news and bad, it seems like there's not a lot of good news."  Jesus smiles.  Matthew looks at his notes: "'Anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery.'  Doesn't that make everyone an adulterer?"  Jesus nods.  Matthew, continuing: "'If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out.'  Wouldn't that lead to an entire population of people walking around with only one eye?  And this one...'If anyone were to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well?'  Trees that bear bad fruit being cut down and thrown into the fire, the gate is narrow and hard that leads to life, depart from Me I never knew you.  Do you realize how heavy-laden Your sermon is with these kinds of ominous pronouncements?  I haven't even named half of them."  Jesus, fervently: "It's a manifesto, Matthew.  I'm not here to be sentimental and soothing.  I'm here to start a revolution.  I'm talking about a radical shift.  Did you think I was just going to come here and say, 'Hey everyone, just, uh, keep doing what you've been doing for the last thousand years.  It's been going so great.'"

When Mary knocks on her cousin's door, the baby leaps in Elizabeth's womb.  The elderly woman greets her cousin excitedly and they sit down to talk.  Elizabeth looks at Mary's stomach: "Blessed are you among women!  And blessed is the fruit of your womb!"  Mary is amazed and sees that Elizabeth, too, is pregnant.  Elizabeth continues: "Blessed are you who believed there would be a fulfillment from what was spoken to you from Adonai."  Elizabeth explains to Mary why Zechariah didn't speak to her when she arrived: "He did not believe the Messenger from God about me.  I feel bad that he has to go through this, but...I must admit, sometimes I don't mind the quiet."  The two women laugh.  Elizabeth tells Mary that her baby's name will be John and that he will turn many in Israel back to God.  He will prepare the way for Mary's own child.  The women rejoice.

A demon-possessed man has wandered into camp.  Mary Magdalene, recognizing what the man is suffering, approaches him.  The demon acknowledges her by her former name, trying to intimidate her.  But Mary won't be intimidated.  She tries to appeal to the man behind the demon, asking him his name.  There are a few moments where the man tries to fight his way forward, choking and gasping, but the demon wins out.  He laughs and then lunges at Mary.  Before he can attack, Simon the Zealot comes out of nowhere and tackles him to the ground.  The demon begins to strangle Simon.  Before he can kill him, Jesus arrives on the scene.  From a distance, Jesus waves a hand: "Out!  Out of him!"  Immediately, the demon leaves the man's body.  He falls to the ground.  Jesus kneels tenderly beside the weeping man: "It's all right.  Welcome back.  I know.  It seemed like it would never end.  What is your name?"  Man: "Caleb."  Jesus: "Well, it's over now."  He helps Caleb to his feet and embraces him.  (Caution: scene may disturb some viewers)

Judas is meeting with his old "business" partner.  He tells Hadad that he's confused about the direction of Jesus's ministry.  He expects Jesus to physically conquer the Romans eventually, but he feels they are moving too slowly.  Hadad, always scheming for wealth, gets Judas to tell him that he holds the money for the group.  Hadad: "Are you being compensated for your specialized skill?"  He tells Judas that he deserves to be paid for his work.  When Judas appears reluctant, Hadad switches tactics.  He suggests Judas take the money and invest it for the group: "It's just good business."  Judas, remembering the parable of the talents, is allowing himself to be persuaded.  Hadad encourages Judas to try for a position of power in Jesus's kingdom: "You need to get paid, and He needs to lead."

Jesus and His disciples are eating together when Philip asks about fasting.  As one of John's disciples, he had been required to fast regularly and he wonders why Jesus has never made them fast.  He also knows the Pharisees put an emphasis on fasting and worries they will be judged for not doing it.  Jesus: "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?  The days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken away from them.  Then they will fast."  Seeing they are still struggling to understand, Jesus asks for an old wineskin to be brought to Him.  He asks the disciples what would happen if Eden's new wine was put into the old skins.  Matthew: "The new wine would keep expanding and it would explode."  Jesus: "And so, new wine must be put into fresh wineskins."  Andrew admits for the group that they are still confused.  Jesus: "The ways of the kingdom I am bringing into this world will not fit into old containers or frameworks."

"To influence the youth of a nation, you first have to understand its culture."    The youth of Korea is discussed, including its pop stars, suicide clubs and an interview with the manager of actor Daniel Henney (X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

The filmmaker visits an all night youth prayer service at the explosive Joyful Church in Seoul. Hungry for revival, the college age youth worship and cry out to God -- far into the wee hours of the morning.

Asian-American hip hop artist MC Jin discusses his walk with God. From his beginnings in America -- including his rise to fame, tests of faith and temptations, growth as a believer -- to his current destiny in joining the spiritual movement in Hong Kong.

The filmmaker visits Taiwan and talks with pop-icon Van Ness Wu ("the Justin Timberlake of Taiwan") who discusses his earlier sexually promiscuous lifestyle as a believer, and his unusual journey to abstinence.        "More and more artists are turning their lives to Christ and the Holy Spirit is definitely moving to something big."

Pastor Philip Mantofa of Mawar Sharon Church, "returned to hell to bring down heaven."     This dynamic leader discusses what God is doing through his supernatural crusades in Indonesia: physical healings, hundreds racing to alters, mass slayings in the Spirit, and rockin' youth crusades resulting in widespread baptisms and conversions.

At one of Pastor Philip Mantofa's outdoor youth crusades (see previous Scene), the filmmaker visits the "Deliverance Tent" where numerous teens have evil spirits cast out.     "As people get saved, light and darkness collide... A lot of people start manifesting demons at these crusades."

Dr. Risner discusses the 1997 Roswell Conference, the very famous UFO case and the strange comments made at the US Air Force debriefing on CNN. Ten strangers are summoned to Indian Island, a small island off the coast of Devon, by a mysterious note. Traveling by a small boat, the adventure starts off with the closely confined passengers already having to deal with each other's irritating quirks.

After enjoying dinner on the first night at a mysterious mansion, "Mr. U.N. Own" - who called them there - still hasn't arrived. Surprisingly, a voice on a gramophone record begins to accuse each of them of past murders that the law was unable to prosecute them for.

After one of them mysteriously dies, everyone begins to suspect his neighbor. In this humorous scene, the men find themselves caught in a continual loop of each spying on the other!

After three mysterious deaths - the last being a knife in the back - the evidence is conclusive: they were all murdered. And "Mr. Owen" has gathered them to the island to administer punishment for their past crimes. But Mr. Owen is nowhere to be found. There is only one explanation: Mr. Owen is one of THEM!

After a secret vote, the group decides that Rogers is the murderer among them. They lock him out of the house that night, but the next morning when they are sure of Rogers' guilt, they find him... but not as they expect.

"What do you suppose that delirious mind is searching for?" asks the doctor, as he tries to calm the notorious gunman Quirt Evans, who is wounded (with the bullet still in him), causing him to collapse onto a farm owned by Quaker Thomas Worth and his daughter Penelope. Thomas finally retrieves the gunslingers gun (without the bullets) and puts it in the flailing man's hands - instantly calming him!

While Quirt is being nursed back to health by the beautiful Quaker girl Penelope, she shares some of her beliefs with the gunslinger...   "Only the doer can be hurt by a mean or evil act."

While Quirt is being nursed back to health by the beautiful Quaker girl Penelope, she honestly expresses her feelings earning a big kiss from the Duke.   Quirt, after she bares more of her heart to him, "I didn't think religious people were so sudden and direct."  Penelope, "Well, it's the way I feel and it would be dishonest to say anything else!"

One day when Quirt learns that cantankerous rancher Frederick Carson and his sniffling sons have dammed up the stream that runs through the valley and feeds the Worths' irrigation ditches, he immediately rides out and confronts Carson; intimidating the ornery man with his reputation into opening the dam - causing the Quaker family to rejoice in thanks!

Quirt joins the Worths at a Quaker Sunday service, with Quirt's squirrelly sidekick Randy tagging along. During the service, Quirt is called up by Thomas Worth and presented a Bible for his friendship and assistance with resupplying water to their fields; prompting all the men to shake Quirt's hand.

After a Quaker Sunday service, Quirt's sidekick Randy is enamored with a Bible Quirt was given (see previous scene) and after reading a passage about David's mighty men, says: "Oh, brother, this is good writing!"    Quirt: "Let's go..."   Randy: "What about the Bible? You can't throw it away, that would be bad luck."  Quirt: "Then keep it."   Randy: "Alright - this is one book I'm sure gonna read!"

In an old Western saloon, Quirt pushes his way between two men to get to the bar to order a drink... which the two men don't take too kindly to...  "Hey, there's plenty of room on either side, do you have to come bullying in between us?"   Quirt: "I didn't see ya..."   After Quirt goes back to his table, the four men continue to stare him down from the bar.   Quirt: "Maybe I should go apologize..." as a classic John Wayne barroom fight ensues!

Gunman Quirt and the beautiful Quaker girl Penelope try to sort out their feelings, ending in a big 'ol smooch.  Why do church girls always fall for gun-slinging scoundrels?

Animated Bible Series: Episode 1 - The Creation, The

Time passes and men turn from God as violence and wickedness fills the Earth. God is sorry for what He's created and decides to destroy the Earth with water -- except for Noah, his family, and a selection of animals. God gives Noah instructions for building an ark.   (Gen. 6:5-22)


Noah does as God commands, and when he is 600 years old, the ark is finally finished. Noah enters the ark with his family and selected animals. God closes the ark door as the windows of heaven are opened, raining continually for 40 straight days, causing every creature left to perish.  After 150 days since the flood began, the ark comes to rest on the mountains of Ararat.  (Gen. 7-8:5)


As generations pass, Earth's population explodes.  Most settle in one place, refusing to scatter as God commanded, and begin to build a great city and mighty tower to reach the heavens. Displeased, God takes notice and confuses their language -- forcing them to stop construction and scatter throughout the Earth. (Gen. 11:1-9)


Animated Bible Series: Episode 2 - The Flood, The

Job, the greatest and wealthiest man in the East, has a wonderful life and is blameless in God's eyes. However, Satan challenges Job's integrity and argues that Job only fears God due to being blessed and protected; and if all were taken away, he'd curse God. God agrees to let Satan test Job.   (Job 1:6-12)

After Job's three friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar visit and take turns lecturing him, a fourth  younger (and angry!) friend - Elihu - attempts to comfort Job. (Job 32-37)


After all the bloviating, the Lord finally answers Job from out of a storm. The Lord asks Job rhetorical questions dealing with the cosmos, weather, animals and incredible beasts - but does not directly address Job’s suffering. (Job 38-41)

While filming a documentary, Christian film producer Ken Curtis interviews Warden Burl Cain at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, aka 'Angola.'  Cain, a believer, is credited with making Angola a unique prison populated with multiple chapels and it's own Bible College.   Warden Cain: "When you separate God from everything, you're knocking off your mortality, and the morality of your community, and then you have violence. I mean, it's simple really.  So, we got back to living a moral life at Angola. And when we did that, we saw our violence go away. It's so simple to me..."

Warden Cain explains being forced to do the parent's job of inmates...  "We live with rules. But, if we don't teach you to follow rules as little kids, you won't be prone to follow the rules when you're older. It's so simple. We over complicate everything. You can't teach without discipline. You have to be quiet to learn. But we don't have discipline in the school, we gave it all up. Because we got so politically correct, that we blew it. And so when you come to prison, I go back and do just what you're suppose to do at home: I make you sit down, shut up and be quiet, and listen. And do what I say."

The warden recalls a time when a hurricane hit the prison, causing a loss of power - plunging a dormitory, with only a female guard, into total darkness for several hours. And even though she was in among rapists and murderers - with only a flashlight! - nothing happened... And with several entire prison outages affecting over 5,000 inmates, no punches were thrown, no screaming, zero violence.   "Peace be still...it's a culture change, that's God. We're not that smart, we're not that strong."

Cathy Fontenot, the female Assistant Warden, is interviewed while she casually walks among the long-term inmates...   "I can go anywhere in this prison un-escorted. You see a lot of guys refrain from fighting, that sort of thing. Matter of fact, our number of assaults we're reporting is in the low 100's, as opposed to over 1,000. And this can be even a spitting incident; and that is the majority of them..."

The warden is asked what he's most proud of at the prison...  "The church we built. And to go in there and listen to an inmate preach to all the others; and see their behavior, and see them moved and see them go to the front and walk down the isle, it's the culture change; because we enable them to do it for themselves."

Interviewed is 'Lifer" Sydney (having already served 30 years), who is a prison pastor, teacher, and a lawyer! Shown is the prison's accredited Bible college (with over 120 students) and the library.
